Training
As well as the important work at Committee level, ATLAS has a fundamental commitment to upholding exceptional standards in Health & Safety and Training and ensuring that members receive the most up-to-date information in these fields.
ATLAS works closely with the Steeplejack and Lightning Protection Training Group (www.atlastraininggroup.org.uk), which was formed in 1974 to organise systematic training for the Industry. They work to formulate a national apprenticeship scheme, a qualification system and to expand the training facilities in association with the Construction Industry Training Board at The National Construction College, in Bircham Newton, Norfolk.
All ATLAS members are also members of the Training Group and have access to the specialist industry training that the Group regularly organises.
Through ATLAS membership, member companies are also members of the NSCC (National Specialists Contractors Council - www.nscc.org.uk) and therefore have access to training services and advice that they offer. Courses or projects currently available via NSCC include:
- NSCC Outward Bound Courses
Develop your managers through the NSCC outward-bound programme. Programme dates run frequently and up to date information can be found on the NSCC website or through the Secretariat. - Improve your Business with CLIP
The Construction Lean Improvement Project is designed to help businesses implement the principles of lean construction to improve their processes and reduce waste. It can be applied to administration and as well as production type processes. - Train to Gain
Through Construction Skills and the NSCC, members have access to Train to Gain, the government funded national skills service that supports employers of all sizes to develop the skills of their employees and improve business performance.
For further detail please email the NSCC at enquiries@nscc.org.uk or talk to the ATLAS Secretariat.
ATLAS also participates in the National Working Groups for Training which examines apprenticeships, NVQs and the content of training modules to ensure that industry interests are represented.
