The Association of Technical Lightning & Access Specialists (ATLAS) has been representing the leading players in the lightning protection and specialist access sector since 1946. At the forefront of all industry developments, ATLAS is committed to improving working practices, technical excellence and the skills of the workforce to provide the highest quality service to the industry's clients.

Originally formed as the National Federation of Master Steeplejacks & Lightning Conductor Engineers (NFMS&LCE) in 1946, with the country facing a huge post-War rebuilding programme, NFMS&LCE became ATLAS in 2003. ATLAS has an established track record and is unrivalled when it comes to providing experience in lightning protection and specialist access solutions.

ATLAS works with a range of key stakeholders including the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), British Standards Institution (BSI), Build UK, and Access Industry Forum (AIF) to influence decisions, raise standards and shape the business environment for the benefit of its members.

With UCATT, the UK's only trade union dedicated to construction workers, ATLAS operates a National Joint Council which agrees terms and conditions for the industry's workforce today. With CITB it created and supports a dedicated Industry Training Group to provide training and qualifications tailored to the needs of the industry, including apprenticeship programmes offering a formal training route for new entrants.

ATLAS' lightning protection and safety & access committees monitor current working practices and provide a forum for identifying issues and improving standards. This enables ATLAS members to apply the latest skills, innovations and techniques to deliver the full range of work including design, inspection, installation, repairs, and maintenance.

To be ATLAS members companies must meet strict criteria for financial stability, health and safety, insurances, technical standards and training. This gives clients using ATLAS members the confidence that they are working with competent and reputable Specialist Contractors.
